What Would You Say to a Friend Who Was Doubting Themself
What would you say to a friend who was doubting themself? What might you say to guide them to see what you know about them?
If you are like me, you may say something like this:
You are worthy - regardless of what your inner critic says, your essence and intelligence has inherent value. It’s not always easy to believe that when stuck in self-doubt, but I want to remind you it's the truth.
I understand you may look around and think others contribute things more important than you, or that you lack skills and talents to feel deserving. You may think that they are the "pros" and you "hope to someday." Your mind lies to you.
“Comparison is the thief of joy.”
- Theodore Roosevelt
I see your gifts, strengths, and beauty in you that you overlook. That doesn't make your struggle less real or painful, but hang in there because there are other ways to tell your story. Your best one hasn’t been told yet!
Remember all the steps you have taken getting to here. Your determination and resilience has given you poise, you have got this!
Remind yourself of the small things you CAN value within yourself now. What brings you little pockets of joy - a favorite food, the sun on your face, time with family? A simple act of kindness you did? None of these erase self-doubt entirely, but they are pieces of worth that exist alongside the negative stories.
You deserve to see yourself as I see you - whole, worthy, and enough! The world needs your unique gifts. Practice self-acceptance and self-forgiveness.
You belong here exactly as you are.
You do. You really do.
