What is Spirituality - Page 33
Spirituality is one’s recognition of the Universe as a Living Presence…which like the great rhythms of Life, flow through everything. LSOM, 33.3
Spirituality is a recognition of the Living Presence of the Universe that we find at the center of our being and is looking back at us through the eyes of others. It is not a result of mental gymnastics or an intellectual exercise of theological dogma. Spirituality is beyond mental concept and is the sense and experience of resting in It’s Presence, feeling our oneness with it and It’s embrace of us.
Approaching our spirituality simply by a recipe of “principle and practices,”, where I do this and now I do this, is like that artist who attempts to create art not from a sense of beauty that is wanting to be known by the artist and rather is producing “art” by technique. There is an impulse of beauty within every artist that if they trust it, it will operate through the consciousness, and techniques but ART is more than just the proper techniques.
Spirituality is a constant, consistent attempt to feel the Presence of God in everything and everyone and in everyone. LSOM 34.1
In our attempt to feel the presence of God, in all its forms, in all moments of our lives is not always easy to do and requires great courage, but it is possible. The conditions of our life, the conditions in the world can keep us from sensing and feeling that right here and now, God is - in us and a witness.
Our experience of spiritual will be individual and unique as it is coming through our own own consciousness and the invitation is for us to enter within to sense and feel that spiritual beauty that is wanting to be known and expressed through us. This is the start of our own spirituality. Our unique, personal connection to the Divine.
There are core spiritual activities and practices which can help us in this journey, such as spiritual mind treatment/affirmative prayer, mindfulness, and meditation. These and other activities that help us to quiet our mind and connect with our inner selves, and help us to recognize our connection with the power of the Universe.
Ultimately, it is up to each of us to choose our own spiritual path and how to use these practices to deepen our spiritual connection with the world around us. We must journey and explore, experiment and uncover our own spiritual truth that is within. It is through consistent practice that we can experience true spiritual growth and find the peace, acceptance, and love that is at the heart of spirituality.
